Overview of projects and operations – May 2025
In May, the monitoring of harbour porpoises was successfully completed from aboard the vessel HELOT. From aboard Doktor Lubecki, we are continuing the service hoping it will not be significantly extended by the weather. Operations involving playbacks, i.e. replaying sounds in the marine environment are conducted without interruptions.
Another harbour porpoise project is in the pipeline, but there is still time before its commencement and the confirmation of the vessel to be used for the service.
The Magnetometry Team is systematically processing data as part of one of the projects − the work completion being planned for the second half of June.
Meanwhile, geophysical surveys in another project are expected to conclude in early June. The next phase will be an ROV inspection, for which we are already actively preparing – with particular focus on documentation to ensure everything is ready for the ops.
In May, we completed the spring bird migration observations as well as bat recordings. June looks to be demanding – upcoming activities include servicing equipment (C-PODs, buoys, AWACs), hydrochemical surveys and benthos surveys.
Although May was challenging for us as we faced numerous difficulties which affected the schedule, everything points to the mobilisation and calibration phase for the preliminary geophysical surveys under the Maritime Office project being over. We hope that from now on, things will only improve.
Also in May, we signed a contract that officially marked the commencement of the implementation phase of another project. Intensive preparations are currently underway to begin operations, which will be carried out in collaboration with the consortium partners. Our main task will be to conduct UXO operations from aboard the vessel Amber Cecilia.
Another environmental monitoring project is awaiting its contract finalisation – MEWO Team does not slow down. We are working on the documentation to, following the Project Owner’s schedule, deploy the F-PODs in June.
And last but not least, we are in the final stages of preparing four Project Specification Sheets. We have had a constructive kick-off meeting with the Project Owner and we are looking forward to the workshops with which we’ll conclude the documentation stage.
POLISH BORDER GUARDS & MEWO
Due to potential GPS positioning issues near the border with the Russian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) during operations in the Gdańsk Deep area, and in response to the reports from the vessel masters of the vessel Amber Agatha, we contacted the Commander of the Kashubian Border Guard Division requesting support to ensure the safety of the operations.
We are pleased to inform that MEWO has received a declaration of support across multiple levels. The vessel masters operating our vessels have been instructed on the appropriate procedures to follow in situations requiring contact with the authorities.
The duty service of the Kashubian Border Guard Division monitors the movement of our vessels in the area and maintains constant communication with them as well as with the DPA from MEWO. The work area have already been patrolled by the Border Guard vessel SG-111.
ORGANISATIONAL MATTERS
A training session was held at MEWO for all employees. Tomasz Owczarek, delivering a lecture on communication, received high praise – we are planning a follow-up session on this topic.
MEWO’S CHARITY INITIATIVES
Another meeting has taken place as part of the Pakujemy z Sercem [Wrapping the hearts] campaign!
At the house on Malczewskiego Street, together with other committed people, we managed to wrap as many as 10 gifts. There was an opportunity to share experiences with manual and automatic vehicles – everyone had something interesting to say!
We keep discovering wonderful talents – not only among the people wrapping, but also among the young residents of the Children’s Homes. We already know that birthday wishes can be written in verse… How will they surprise us next time?
MEWO ON THE ROAD
WIND OFFSHORE FINLAND – 21.05.2025 – HELSINKI
The seminar was dedicated to the offshore market in Finland.
Finland is currently facing legislative changes, but the mood remains moderately optimistic. Consultations are planned for May, and the market has a chance to recover in 2026.
Strong emphasis was placed on the risks to cables and pipelines. A conference dedicated to this topic was recently held in Sweden, demonstrating a positive attitude in Europe towards implementing solutions such as guard vessels, monitoring systems, and the like.
EY ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR – 12.05.2025 – WARSZAWA
After a brief introduction from the organisers, the participants were divided into workshop groups. We discussed companies’ experiences related to the implementation of IT technologies and data processing. In my group, the following topics were discussed, among others:
- legal challenges when using cloud technologies,
- possibilities of applying AI algorithms for data analysis (not limited to generative ones),
- developing IT solutions in-house versus using external service providers.
After the workshops concluded, there was also time for exchanging opinions and experiences with other participants.
